CCDM researchers have uncovered how the order of infection between septoria nodorum blotch (SNB) and yellow leaf spot (YLS) can dramatically change disease severity and plant resistance. In a new study, our researchers used a cutting‑edge digital PCR method to track how these pathogens interact. They found that when YLS infects first, it can weaken the plant’s defences and pave the way for SNB — but when SNB strikes first, it suppresses YLS by outcompeting it. Hear from CCDM’s Leon Lenzo, DPIRD’s Geoff Thomas and AGT’s Dion Bennett as they unpack what this discovery means for disease management, resistance breeding, and protecting Australian wheat crops into the future.
