Fungicide resistance occurs when fungi are repeatedly exposed to fungicides from the same chemical group, allowing resistant strains to survive and multiply. This poses a serious challenge for effective disease control - especially when there are no alternative fungicides or resistant crop varieties available. As resistance develops, growers and industry need a trusted source of information and guidance. That’s why the Australian Fungicide Resistance Extension Network (AFREN) was established—to equip growers with the knowledge and tools to reduce resistance and manage its impact on Australian grain production. The Network is a partnership between many groups, and is supported by the GRDC. This video was created to celebrate AFREN’s recent achievement: being named finalists in the Industry Engagement Category at the 2025 Engagement Australia Excellence Awards - receiving a High Commendation for their outstanding contribution to the grains industry. AFREN is supported by the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) in partnership with the Centre for Crop and Disease Management, AgCommunicators, ICAN, Agriculture Victoria, SARDI, DPIRD, FAR Australia, Marcroft Grains Pathology, NSWDPI, Queensland Government, University of South Queensland, The University of Sydney, The University of Melbourne.
