After 15 years in plant science roles at UWA focussed primarily on the transformation of lupins and pulses, Leon has recently completed a PhD with CCDM on the landscape gene flow of demethylase inhibitor resistance in Pyrenophora teres f. teres.
Currently, he works in the Fungicide Resistance Group on the development of a national geospatial mapping tool for visualisation of the distribution of fungicide resistance in cereal pathogens (https://prim.ccdm.com.au/home). The aim of the platform is to provide agronomists with spatial knowledge of fungicide resistances to improve crop disease management decisions. The project has aims to expand the platform across all pathosystems of small grain crops that are developing fungicide resistance. “To draw a target on any pest, we first need to know where it is and how fast it is moving”.
