DataHarvest, a partnership between the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) and Curtin University, will develop expertise to advance the management of grains research, development and extension (RD&E) data for Australian grain growers.

Improved data management results in better outcomes for Australian grain growers through the faster and more efficient delivery of new knowledge and RD&E outputs.

Managing data better  is one of GRDC’s foundational enablers.

Face-to-Face Workshops

The DataHarvest team will deliver tailored face-to-face workshops, online data management resources and a dedicated Support Services Centre to GRDC’s research partners.

The face-to-face workshops will begin in the coming months, working with GRDC research partners that currently hold research contracts with GRDC. Completion of a DataHarvest workshop will ensure that research partners have the necessary skills to expertly collect, manage and appropriately share grains RD&E data in a standardised way.

The workshops will provide an opportunity for GRDC research partners to understand the GRDC Data Management Guidelines and help partners comply with GRDC’s contractual RD&E data management requirements.  There will be a strong focus on identifying data collection and storage, metadata collection, uploading data to repositories and registration project metadata with the GRDC Data Catalogue.

Working towards FAIR

Research partners will also learn how to manage data to ensure it is findable, accessible, interoperable and reusable – the FAIR principles. These principles offer a framework to consider the management, collection, sharing and re-utilisation of research data. The FAIR principles support knowledge discovery and innovation and are increasingly adopted internationally, across disciplines, for their ability to enhance data governance.

Avoiding duplication of effort and investment, extracting value from existing datasets and accelerating research are all clear benefits of implementing standardised research data management throughout the GRDC research network.

To register your interest in participating in a tailored DataHarvest workshop, contact the DataHarvest team through email (dataharvest@grdc.com.au) or phone (0419 739 948).

DataHarvest is an investment of the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC). It is led by Curtin University through the Centre for Crop and Disease Management (CCDM).
