Mark is originally from the UK where he obtained a PhD in molecular science from Bristol University. During his PhD he worked in collaboration with the agriscience company Syngenta on an important disease of wheat. In 2015, he emigrated to Australia to join the CCDM where his research has been focused on novel ways to improve the efficiency of canola breeding for disease resistance.
Mark has a broad knowledge of the molecular biology of plants and their pathogens. He is also a keen computational scientist and statistician, with expertise in statistical breeding, population genetics and bioinformatics. In his role as project leader at the CCDM, Mark brings together the diverse expertise of himself and his colleagues to work towards improving disease management in canola. He has a strong passion for plant breeding and enjoys seeing innovative techniques being put into practice.
