Leon works as a Research Assistant in the Genomics of Co-Infection project. He is passionate about low input, high impact solutions for growers and breeders. By studying the genomic structures of both crop plants and the diseases that affect yield in Western Australia, his work directly contributes to the production of higher yielding cultivars of wheat.
In collaboration with industry, his work seeks to map the evolution of disease in response to cropping practises and cultivar selection. By using cutting edge molecular and microbiological techniques he is working to characterise and combat the destructive effects of local plant pathogen species.
