Effector and co-infection biology

Breeding for fungal disease resistance in wheat can be difficult due to co-infecting pathogens and variations in fungal effector gene properties. These factors allow fungal pathogens to rapidly overcome host disease resistance. Our goal is to identify weaknesses in fungal metabolism so that strategies can be devised to minimise the impact of fungal diseases of wheat. Author: Kar-Chun Tan
